Where is my model number? Generally, this on the hood of the machine, or a prominent location. Newer John Deere lawn tractor models, like this X739 below, usually start with an X or S, and John Deere zero-turn mowers start with a Z. Where is my serial number? John Deere calls this a "Product Identification Number," and it can be found on a rectangular plate on your machine. There is often a different serial number for a tractor or mower, and a second one for the mower deck or attachment. The Product Identification Number generally includes the model name. For example, on an Z740R lawn mower, a sample serial number might be 1TC740RDAPR080048. Engines usually have their own serial numbers, and this information can be helpful for finding parts like carburetors and spark plugs.
Now, to finding your part number. John Deere publishes and updates its parts catalog for every model and serial number. You can enter your Product Identification Number (PIN) in the search bar, and it will take you to the catalog for your machine. Browse by parts section (e.g. “Engine” or “Hydraulics”), or search the parts list by name.
The part number is typically around 8 letters and numbers together, for example, AM39653. For parts like filters and lawn mower blades, this John Deere part number is often stamped directly on your old part being replaced.
